Renée Downey, MS, LPC, NCC
As a Psychotherapist, my passion lies in developing a collaborative, trusting, safe, and respectful relationship with each individual client. Working together, we will explore maladaptive thought, emotional, and behavioral patterns, which interfere with a healthy and functional life. In order to achieve success in therapy, the client needs to be heard, understood, and treated with empathy and unconditional positive regard. With warmth and compassion, I will use evidenced-based practice to meet the client’s needs, implement an individualized treatment plan, and utilize the client’s individual strengths and past successes to resolve current problems.
I earned a Master of Science Degree in Counseling and Clinical Health Psychology, with a specialization in Addiction and Offenders, from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduation, I obtained a Pennsylvania license as a professional counselor (LPC), and am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I have had the pleasure of lecturing at West Chester University and Widner University discussing the complexities of treating opioid addiction. During my employment at Soar Corp, I facilitated both Women’s Group, and Grief and Trauma Group. For almost 5 years, I worked at the Well-Being Center in Ardmore, helping clients with a variety of mental health issues. Today I own and work in my individual private practice, Dragonfly Emotional Health, LLC.
My expertise is in treating Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as a result of physical, sexual, and mental abuse, Adjustment Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Grief and Loss, and Drug and Alcohol Dependence. I am also proficient in working with Bi-polar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, stress management, relationship problems, low self-esteem and women’s health issues.
I use a collection of therapeutic modalities in my practice which include: Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution focused Therapy, Therapeutic Journal Writing, and Mindfulness Based CBT.
As part of the treatment plan, I hope to help the client:
set and reach attainable goals
identify triggers that worsen symptoms
develop healthy coping strategies for anxiety and depression
address, process, and heal past traumatic experiences
manage stress
improve relationships
learn to love and value yourself
